Tyler, the Creator has released a remix of Zayn Malik’s “Pillowtalk” and recorded an accompanying video to go along with it.
In the clip, which the rapper said he made because “I had no art to go along with this, so I recorded myself dancing to it,” Tyler stays true to his word as he unabashedly grooves to the fresh beats and synths he added to the former One Directioner’s single and also mouths along to the words. It’s a decidedly more buoyant version with a stylish outro, albeit not mixed yet according to the rapper, than the power ballad-styled original.
Last year, the rapper reached out to Malik about working on a collaboration, tweeting, “I have beautiful instrumentals and you have a voice. Let’s figure this out, my guy.” Malik responded, “Sounds sick bro, let’s do some shit.” However, their meet-up apparently never materialized because the rapper recently tweeted that Malik “flaked on studio sessions twice.”
Malik’s “Pillowtalk” hails from the singer’s debut solo album, Mind of Mine. Tyler, the Creator will be headlining AfroPunk NYC Festival in August.
