The INF, who describes his music as, “an enigma of sound, lyrics, and magik,” is a rapper and lyricist who has established himself in the local trip-hop scene over the past year. He is often found at many shows throughout the city, supporting his friends and networking at events. He performs often, and emphasizes diversity in the variety of different shows he gets involved in.
We spoke to The INF in an exclusive interview and learned what inspired his creative process in the making of Phoenix. This is what he had to say about his experience:
“I’m inspired by the mystery of the unknown. The search of Knowledge and the magic of imagination. The thrill of discovery; those are all of the things that inspire me. When making Phoenix, I was at what I considered a do or die moment. I was at a point as an artist that, I had a collection of an idea and it meant everything to me. Up to that point in my life I had always been on a quest. With Phoenix, I happened upon a door, the first door ever in my quest. In Phoenix, I walk through that door and describe it in detail. How I felt before going through it, what it feels like on the other side of it etc. Phoenix is a state of mind that belongs to the adventurer in all of us. Phoenix was the core and answer of a lot of questions that we all have in life and with the album I had found a way to express it and account for it. Phoenix is a report of the infinite paths of the mind. I’m still on that quest. During the making of Phoenix, some of the music that I listened to was Die Antwoord, Bob Dylan, Childish Gambino, KRS One, Earl Sweatshirt, MF DOOM and The Violent Femmes.”
