Earlier this week, Astro Nautico artists Sam O.B. (fka Obey City) and Photay released a debut LP under their collaborative alias Ensemble Entendu. Titled Selected Rhythm Works, Vol. 1, the album is exactly what you would expect from the duo, and then some. In every track, you will find rhythmic and melodic idiosyncrasies of both artists with the sound signatures of P-funk, dub reggae, house music, African polyrhythm, ’80s prog and more.
The name Ensemble Entendu could not be more fitting, as it references the deju entendu experience; that psychic phenomenon in which you hear something that you feel you have heard before, even if you are actually hearing it for the first time. Judging by the timeless groove and eclectic dynamism demonstrated in this debut release, it is exciting to consider what this complimentary duo may conceive next.
