San Antonio based musician and beatmaker Jonah Conrad has announced a new self-produced album entitled “Headspace” which will soon be released on TIMEWHEEL and debuted exclusively on 91.7 KRTU Indie Overnight during Jeannette Muniz’s weekly “Live and Local” show. The debut broadcasts at 10PM CST on August 11th and will subsequently appear on our releases page. With a track record as diverse and creative as Jonah’s, it is certain that this album will be brilliant and highly texturized. Having become a prolific artist in the beat scene of our hometown, Jonah Conrad has acquired a dedicated fanbase and established his sound within the progressive style that our label represents. He can often be found keeping the party alive at our events, playing shows with his band, and coming out out to support his homies at their shows.
I had a chance to listen to some of the new material from “Headspace” and get a glimpse at where Jonah is headed with his music, and so far I am very pleased with the sound. The chill hip-hop rhythms keep a solid but intricate structure to accompany sophisticated chord progressions. The tracks emphasize an abstract personality through electronic beats, ethereal synthesizers, dreamy pianos, and head-bopping bass notes. This fine-tuned mixture of jazz, hip hop, and electronic music is sure to be a hit with both old and new fans of his work.
I spoke with Jonah Conrad about what this LP means to him and he had this to say: “I want this album to inspire other people to create things of any type. To get in touch with their creative side and see the beauty of it. During the writing process of this album I learned a lot about myself and the way my brain works creatively… I hope to make people feel at peace with my music and understand music made with love is essential.”
